The speed test rating was determined subjectively, by looking at the amount of banners and graphics a page included that were not related to its listings. This was done to not unfairly penalize thumbnail based tgps that do take longer to download, but in order to give the surfer more information.
In addition to the rating, we provide raw internet speed test data.
In the above graphic, the first number is the total number of kilobytes required to transfer the page and all embedded content (for example images and stylesheets). The second number is the number of http requests needed to transfer the page. The final two numbers are the estimated number of seconds to download the page on a cable connection vs a modem connection. To calculate these two numbers we added 400 bytes per request to the total number of bytes to account for the http header overhead..
Our rating was not based on the raw speed numbers, but a subjective estimation of how much of the page space/bandwidth was related to advertising vs actual listings, and how quickly the actual listings could be located on the page.
