An analysis and review of the Mad Thumbs TGP
Compare Madthumbs.com to other TGPs:
This TGP research is sponsored by Nici ... a personal software application that finds and downloads pictures and movies from the web
Nici uses the same methods and protocols as a regular web browser, except that it is specialized for pictures. It has a powerful unattended mode, so that your computer can stay busy downloading pictures and movies while you do other things.
Our Overall Rating:
Our Summary: Mad thumbs is a thumbnail based TGP. Each gallery it lists is represented by a single small thumbnail so you can choose which galleries to look at by seeing a sample.
Its updates were average for a thumb TGP. Over a week the crawler downloaded 116.5MB of pictures and 401.8MB of movies. Being suited to higher connection speeds, it appears to give more weight to movies than pictures.
Our major problem with MadThumbs is its use of redirection and inevitable skimming (taking the surfer to a page they were not expecting). As you can see in the galleries section, madthumbs skimmed every 6th and 7th click.
We were pleased to see a PICS-label indicating that blocking software should stop the page being displayed to minors.
Overall this is a decent thumbnail tgp except for its redirection and skimming.
