A pic downloader program (also known as picture grabber software or picture ripper software) downloads pictures and images from web pages.
Benefits:
Nici protects privacy. No information about you is ever sent to anyone, not us, not anybody, period. Nici includes features such as; Obscure mode, password protection, Wipe then Exit, and Quick Exit so you can surf for pictures anonymously and in privacy.
Nici contains no adware, spyware or any other "mal-ware". (We recommend Ad-aware to protect privacy from these "mal-ware" programs.)
Nici accesses the Internet in the same way as a Web-Browser, however it crumbles cookies and will not run potentially dangerous scripts or code. This allows you to see pictures from web sites safely and anonymously. See How Nici accesses the Internet for more information.
You can choose to enable Obscure mode which protects privacy from other users of your computer. It is designed to stop other users of your computer from accidently seeing inappropriate pictures or descriptions. Numbers are used in place of descriptions, and pictures altered slightly, so that programs like "My Computer" will not automatically display them.
You can also use Nici's Wipe then Exit command. When you do a Wipe then Exit, everything that Nici knows about what pictures have been downloaded and what web-sites they were found at, is deleted from your hard drive. The only settings that Nici retains are inert settings like; What theme you are using, whether to show tooltips, license key information and Window layouts. This means that there is no need to use an Internet Washer program with Nici, however if you have been using a normal Web-Browser, you may be surprised at what and where it saves files that track what you have been doing. See Internet Washer Programs for information on cleaning up your Web-Browser and get back to surfing responsibly and in privacy.
Nici is also System Friendly. Nici installs no shared DLLs, ActiveX controls or other system files and nothing is installed outside of the Nici directory. Nici is self-contained; you can install it without fear of it interfering with your system or with other applications.
Nici is easy to use; in seconds pics will just start start flowing in. Nici's Auto-Pilot was designed for one thing: automated retrieval of Easy Pics! When you run Nici for the first time, the Auto-Pilot finds free pictures from public web sites without you needing to do anything but look at them as they download.
You can switch the Auto-Pilot off and select the pages you want Nici to download the pictures from, or stick with the easy pics and leave the Auto-Pilot on.
It does not take long to download a lot of pictures ... no need to just read about it ...
Try Nici for Free and see for yourself! The diagram above shows a common layout of web pages that you can use to find and see pictures. There is almost a countless number of both kinds of pages on the web, all publicly available and free to use.
A Directory Page lists lots of Picture Pages, and is often updated daily with new links. A Picture Page contains the pics, often with a thumbnail pointing to the actual pic.
Nici understands this common layout, and makes use of it to either automatically start downloading with the Auto-Pilot, or present it so you can select which pages of pics you want to download.
If you want to explore Nici further, there is a built in help system and animated tutorials which demonstrate just how easy it is to download pictures using Nici.
We have setup a web site containing our own easy pics which you can use with the Auto-Pilot when learning to use Nici.
Nici actually contains a Web Browser, but expands it to provide features specialized for finding, browsing and downloading web pages of pictures or images.
With a traditional Web Browser, downloading and viewing a page are tied together; the only way around this is to open pages in multiple browser windows waiting for each to finish.
Nici separates the two, enabling automated picture downloading ... while you browse through pictures that have already downloaded.
Unlike a traditional Web Browser, Nici uses a download line. You can add as many pages and pictures as you want to the line, and Nici will work its way through the line automatically downloading pictures. Add 20-30 pages and come back in 30 minutes to view 300-500 new pictures.
Nici's main function is as an internet picture downloader, and it saves the pictures it downloads to your hard-drive so you can view them the next time you use Nici.
Nici contains an advanced picture viewer, which you can use to browse and manage all the images that have been downloaded.
Web crawling is best known by search engines indexing web sites; an example of a webcrawler is the Googlebot webcrawler.
The webcrawlers used by search engines are industrial strength programs and their job is to follow all links and discover what the pages are all about.
Nici is a picture crawler, it follows links looking for pictures and movies.
Nici defaults to using a technique called the Nici-Quick download strategy. When using Nici-Quick downloading, Nici does not blindly follow all links from a Web-Page. Instead Nici analyzes the Web-Page and only follows links that it is reasonably sure will lead to actual pictures. This means that Nici bypasses thumbnails, and does not waste your time and bandwidth downloading images you don't need to see.
The Nici-Quick download strategy assumes that since there are so many new pages of pictures being listed each day, it is better to move on to a new page than spend 5 minutes blindly following links for no result.
Personal webcrawler programs require you to manually enter addresses of Web-Pages which can be tedious. Nici recognizes that many Web-Pages exist that list and categorize pages of pictures, and enables you to make use of these pages to quickly add links to Nici's download line.
Nici includes an option that if the default Nici-Quick download strategy does not find the pictures you are looking for, you can put Nici in webcrawler mode and it will systematically search through all links for pictures.
Nici uses the HTTP protocol which is the same protocol used by all Web-Browsers. Nici downloads the pages you add to the download line, and follows links in those pages to find pictures.
When you tell Nici to do a Live Update, Nici also uses HTTP to anonymously download a patch file from Nici''s servers.
If you do not enable the Adults Only feature, the Auto-Pilot will download some pictures from Nici's servers as a tutorial.
If Nici detects that a number of network errors have occurred, it will do a connection check by doing HTTP head requests to major servers like; Google, Yahoo, CNet.
If you send either a picture email, or an email to Nici support, Nici uses the standard Simple-MAPI email component.
Nici can not be used with Pay Sites, however there are so many free jpeg files and other pictures on the web, that by using Nici, you do not need to keep paying!
With Nici you can download and view the free jpeg image files from many sources in the one place. You can also add many pages to Nici's download line and walk away from your computer. Nici is automated, It will work its way through the pages, downloading the picture files it finds to your hard drive.
We have setup a web site containing our own free jpgs which you can use with the Auto-Pilot when learning to use Nici.
No, Nici is designed to access web-pages that don't require Authorization. Web-pages that require Authorization ask you for a username and password when you enter the site.
Nici was designed to work with both 56k modems and Broadband. While the experience of using Nici is different depending on the speed of your connection, certain features were designed to improve the efficiency of downloading for 56k modem users.
Our broadband users tell us they see Nici as a great pic ripper because of the speed it downloads pictures.
For modem users, Nici is designed to keep a steady flow of pictures downloading and to download them faster than a Web Browser.
Nici installs no shared DLLs, ActiveX controls or other system files and nothing is installed outside of the Nici directory. Nici uses your existing internet connections and makes no modifications to your existing browser or its registry settings. Nici is self-contained; you can install it without fear of it interfering with your system or with other applications.
The Nici automated picture downloading software is not free, you can trial it, but if you want to keep using Nici after the trial period you need to buy a licensed copy.
The trial is limited to 15 days of use. After 1000 downloads a watermark is added to pictures. In addition, there are also a number of nag screens that are displayed.
When you buy a licensed copy of Nici, all downloading limitations and reminder screens are removed.
Nici works with other Slideshow software programs as it downloads pics to your hard drive. Most Slideshow software programs will be able to directly read these picture files.
You can download free jpeg images with Nici and create Slideshows with another program, however Nici itself contains a slideshow feature built into its picture viewer. You can use the slideshow feature to tell Nici to automatically change from picture to picture and Nici will work its way through all the free pictures you have downloaded from websites.
Nici saves downloaded pictures into numbered folders under a base folder, usually "My Documents\Nici\Pictures\". You can change the location of this folder at any time. You can also use Nici's Export Picture Files to remove the pictures from Nici's control and place them elsewhere on your hard drive or burn them to a CD.
If you select the Export Picture Files option, Nici moves the picture files into folders named after the web-host that the pictures were downloaded from and the name of the page.
Example: You have downloaded two pages from the host "www.pictures.com" one named "red" the other "blue". You have also downloaded one page from the host "www.somehost.com" named "Todays pictures".
If you then choose the export Base Folder to be "My Pictures", Nici will create the following folders:
... and move the picture and image files from each page into these folders.
You can then rearrange these folders, or let your Slideshow software take control!
There is no need to use Internet Washer software for Nici, but you may need one if you have just switched to Nici.
Internet Washer software is used to remove all files that a web browser like Internet Explorer leaves lying around. Programs that snoop on your privacy know where to look for these files and can see where, when and what you have been browsing. An Internet Washer simply deletes all these files.
The files can often be useful, but an Internet Washer program will probably delete the useful files as well as the files you do not want to keep so that your privacy is protected.
Nici stores all its files in a proprietary format away from where programs like Internet Explorer stores its files. A snooping program, or person, would not know where to look or what they were looking at.
Nici also has its own Internet Washer feature which is called Wipe then Exit. This allows you to completely remove all the files that Nici stores. While using Wipe then Exit limits the usefulness of some of Nici's extra features, it means that you can finish and start Nici with a clean slate each time.
If you are just starting with Nici, consider using a program like Windows Internet Washer to give your browser a spring cleaning. You will be amazed at what a program like Internet Explorer leaves on your hard drive.
Nici, like a web browser and other internet software, can be used to download adult content. We have built into Nici numerous features that you can use to protect minors who use your computer from being exposed to adult content, and to stop minors using Nici to view adult content. We take this issue very seriously and will continue to research and invest in effective means of achieving this. If you have any suggestions or questions please email us at [email protected]
The first issue is to protect minors who share or use a computer with an adult who views adult content, from accidentally coming across inappropriate pictures or descriptions. The following features in Nici are designed to protect against this;
The second issue is to stop minors using Nici to intentionally view adult content. The following features in Nici are designed to protect against this;
Server, proxy and ISP based filtering and blocking programs will also block Nici from being used to download adult content. We have also confirmed that programs like Cybersitter will block Nici from being used to access adult pictures.
Please note that the first issue; protecting minors from accidentally coming across inappropriate pictures or descriptions, is much easier to achieve than the second issue. There are many programs designed specifically to do this, but a determined tech-savy teenager is likely to find ways to bypass many of these programs and protections, and in some ways, they can offer only a false sense of security.
We will continue to research and add features to Nici to help you protect minors. If you have any suggestions or questions please email us at [email protected]
No, Nici is just like a web browser in that it will download what you point it at. It does not know or care what the pictures are of; if you point it at adult web pages it will work like an adult web browser and download adult photographs , if you point it at car web pages it will download pictures of cars.
We understand that many people do want to look and download free adult pictures, and Nici will find a huge number of those pictures because there are so many uploaded each day. To make it easier for our users to find free adult pictures, Nici contains an add-on module, which can be enabled if the user accepts an agreement that they are of legal age, which feeds a random public adult website url into the Auto-Pilot.
This add-on module is only made available after Nici checks the Windows Content Advisor that Adult content is not blocked or filtered for the current user. For more information on the Windows Content Advisor, please see the Microsoft documentation.
If the Windows Content Advisor reports that Adult content is blocked for the current user, the Adult add-on module is disabled, and Nici always shows an information box when starting explaining what the program does and what it may be being used for.
We support the right for adults to view legal adult pictures with adult browsers if they wish, and we hope that certain features in Nici will enable our users to do this safely and responsibly.
One feature that enables this is Nici's Obscure Mode.
Obscure Mode is designed to stop other users of your computer from accidently seeing inappropriate pictures or descriptions. Numbers are used in place of descriptions, and pictures altered slightly, so that programs like "My Computer" will not automatically display them.
A second feature is Password protection which stops another user of your computer from running the program.
Both obscuring and the password protection are not designed to hide or encrypt pictures and will not stop someone who is actively looking. They were designed to stop children who may share the computer, from accidently stumbling over pictures and descriptions they should not be seeing. If you are using a web browser like Internet Explorer to view free adult pictures, you can be sure that Internet Explorer has left hundreds of files lying around on your hard drive.
Surf safely and responsibly!
Free pictures are everywhere on the Internet and everyday there are more free pictures uploaded and downloaded on mass.
One of the reasons there are so many free pictures appearing each day is that if you are using a browser, it is almost impossible to find and see more than a very small percentage. Nici improves these odds for you because it can download pictures faster than you can browse from page to page and picture to picture.
Nici is like a pic grabber, it grabs and rips those pictures fast!
Even using Nici, it is probably still impossible to physically see all the free pictures uploaded each day, but you will see more!
