Upgrade Instructions

All upgrades are free to registered users.

To upgrade to a new version, firstly download the new version using the link below:

Make sure Nici is not running before uninstalling the old version, or installing the new version.

When you have finished uninstalling the old version, run the new version setup file, and the new version will be installed. If you answered "No" to Delete all Nici settings and history files?, the new version of Nici will start up just where you left the old version.

• Improved slideshows, including: full screen mode, loop over page or loop over a list of pictures that can be loaded or saved to disk.

Version 2.01 18th September 2004

• This update addresses the JPEG Processing (GDI+) Security Bulletin issued by Microsoft on the 14th September 2004. Nici uses the GDI+ library to display pictures.. This update is critical if you use a version of Windows before Windows XP (Win98, WinME, Win2000).
• Compatibility fixes for users of Windows XP SP2 on AMD processors.

Version 2.0 22nd June 2004

• Ability to switch into Full Screen mode to view pictures. (See the online help page: Viewing Modes)
• Monitor Window mode which only displays the last picture downloaded. (See the online help page: Viewing Modes)
• New keyboard navigation shortcuts; "A", "S", "D", "W" keys. (See the online help page: Keyboard Shortcuts)
• New Download Control Window that combines the functions of the Add Page Window, Crawl Settings and Download report.

• Movie downloading. Nici will now download movie files either automatically, or identify pages containing movies with the option to then download the movies. (See the online help page Downloading Movies)
• New Auto-Pilot Preferences window. Enter block words and boost words to control what kinds of pictures are downloaded by the Auto-Pilot. (See the online help page Auto-Pilot)
• Optional Auto-Pilot time limit. Turn the Auto-Pilot off after it has been downloading for a set amount of time.
• New Interactive Download Guide to make adding pages easier.
• Option to hide all download links in the source view.

• Improved support for AOL users.

• The source view status area has been changed. It now shows details of the link that the mouse is hovering over including; whether the page has been downloaded, how old the link is, whether high ranked pages have been downloaded from the same web host in the past. • Option to change the number of simultaneous downloads from the default of 2.
• Improved results downloading pictures from Search Engine pages.
• Performance improvements and minor bug fixes.
