Picture Rating

If you use Nici for any period of time, you will find that it has downloaded many pictures. Picture Rating  is one way to organize the "best from the rest".

For this tutorial we have downloaded some of the example picture pages on nicisoft.com.

Rating Pictures

Pictures are rated out of 10. A series, or page of pictures is given the rating ... not the individual pictures.

Whenever you are browsing through your downloaded pictures, you can move the rating up or down.

You can do this a number of ways:

• Use the mouse to click on the rating bar. Clicking to the left decreases the rating, clicking to the right increases the rating. (See arrow "2" in the screenshot below).
• Press the Ctrl and Up Arrow, or the Ctrl and Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease the rating respectively.
• If you are using the alternate keyboard navigation keys, press the "E" or "R" keys to increase or decrease the rating respectively.

Above is a partial screenshot of Nici after it downloaded a number of pages. We liked the series of bird pictures, so we increased the rating from the default 5/10 to 7/10. This can be seen by the use of a "Heart" icon (near arrow "1") and on the rating bar (near arrow "2")

View Rated Pictures

After you have downloaded many pictures, the "My Archives" section of Nici becomes handy when you want to look through the highly rated pictures.

If you right click on the "My Archives" heading, then click on "Arrange for Archive Viewing", the archive pane will be expanded. This is illustrated in the screenshot below.

All the pictures with the same rating are collected under a folder. In the screenshot above, we are viewing the pictures of a series with a rating of 7/10.

You can manually browse through these folders, or start a slideshow which automatically moves from picture to picture and series to series.

Tips

• You can use the "6", "7", "8", "9" or "0" keys to quickly jump to the corresponding archive folder.
• If you give a series a low rating (3 or less), Nici will delete the pictures when you exit.
• If you use the Auto-Pilot, Nici will observe which pictures you give a high rating, and download more from the same host, or the same source, or with similar keywords.

Please Note: Before version 3.0 (under development), this feature was referred to as "Picture Ranking". This has been change to "Picture Rating" for increased clarity.
