Picture File's Names

Nici does not retain the full name of a picture when it downloads it, however it does retain information as to where the picture occurs in a series.

The reason Nici does not retain the full name is that it allows Nici to store the location of pictures very compactly. This means that you can easily have hundreds of thousands of downloaded pictures in your archives.

Picture Series

Nici is specialized to download picture series. When it downloads a webpages HTML code, it searches through the links on the page, and attempts to identify a series of related picture addresses.

For example it might find the following addresses on a page:

http://host.com/picture-series/picture1.jpg
http://host.com/picture-series/picture2.jpg
http://host.com/picture-series/picture3.jpg
http://host.com/picture-series/picture4.jpg
http://host.com/picture-series/picture5.jpg
http://host.com/picture-series/picture6.jpg

When Nici downloads these pictures, it looks for an embedded number in the address and uses that number as the filename. You can also sort the pictures to display in the series order. This is illustrated below

Version 3.0

Version 3.0 is planned for release in mid 2005. Version 3 will give you the option of saving pictures with filenames and folders based on the url address of the picture.
