Nici crawls the web looking for pictures, images and movies. Save and view them with software specialized for web pictures.
Web crawling is best known by search engines indexing web sites; an example of a webcrawler is the Googlebot webcrawler.
The webcrawlers used by search engines are industrial strength programs and their job is to follow all links and discover what the pages are all about.
Nici is a picture crawler, it follows links looking for pictures and movies.
Nici defaults to using a technique called the Nici-Quick download strategy. When using Nici-Quick downloading, Nici does not blindly follow all links from a Web-Page. Instead Nici analyzes the Web-Page and only follows links that it is reasonably sure will lead to actual pictures. This means that Nici bypasses thumbnails, and does not waste your time and bandwidth downloading images you don't need to see.
The Nici-Quick download strategy assumes that since there are so many new pages of pictures being listed each day, it is better to move on to a new page than spend 5 minutes blindly following links for no result.
Personal webcrawler programs require you to manually enter addresses of Web-Pages which can be tedious. Nici recognizes that many Web-Pages exist that list and categorize pages of pictures, and enables you to make use of these pages to quickly add links to Nici's download line.
Nici includes an option that if the default Nici-Quick download strategy does not find the pictures you are looking for, you can put Nici in webcrawler mode and it will systematically search through all links for pictures.
