The file that you download and save to disk is called an Installer program.
An Installer program is like a shopping bag; when you run it, it unpacks the goodies into their correct locations on your computer.
Just like a shopping bag, once you have run the Installer program, you can throw it out (or recycle it!) by deleting the file.
Installer program's names usually start with the program's actual name, end in either "Setup" or "Install", and use either of the icons:
Some people create a folder, for example "c:/downloads", and save all their Installer programs to it.
We prefer to use the "Desktop", so the Installer program file is right in front of us when it completes downloading, and then delete it after we have used it.
When an Installer program is used, it stores a list of what files were put on your computer and what other changes were made.
Using the shopping bag analogy from above this is like saving the receipt. If you don't like what you bought, or installed, you can use this receipt to return or delete it.
To uninstall the program, click the Windows Start button, then click "Programs" and look for the program you want to uninstall. Usually there will be an entry under the program's name that says something like "Uninstall this".
When you start downloading Nici, your browser will display a window similar to the screenshot below:
Click on the "Save" button.
Notes:
Click on "Desktop" on the left of this window, then click on "Save" in the bottom corner.
Notes:
When the download gets to 100% and completes, locate the file in the folder you selected in Step 2.
If you selected the Desktop in Step 2, minimize all your windows and you should see the file on your Desktop:
To start the installation, double-click on the file's icon:
Notes:
Double-clicking on the file's icon will start the installer program. Unless you have a specific reason, accepting all the default answers, and clicking the "Next >" buttons will install and launch the program correctly.
Once you have finished the installation, and Nici is running on your computer, you can delete the installer program.
Click once on the the installer program's file icon.
Then press the "Delete" key. Windows will warn you that you are deleting an executable file, but that is OK since it is only an Installer program which we have finished with.
