Minecraft players will not be able to build or craft without iron ore or ingots. Iron ore is found in the Overworld and can be mined to make iron ingots.
Iron ingots can be used to craft many different types of recipes. They can be used as crafting components, such as iron tools or whole blocks. Different recipes will require different amounts of iron so it is a good idea that you have as many as you can stockpiled and readily available.
Players should be able to find iron in Minecraft. This will make it easier to do other tasks and reduce the time required to store and collect iron.
Mining the blocks of ore is the most popular way to obtain raw iron for Minecraft smelting. These blocks are often found underground, but can also be found on the surface in areas that have a lot of stone.
Version 1.18 introduced new mountain peak biomes such as jagged peak biomes. They also include plenty of surface ores, like iron.
Iron seems to be most abundant underground at Y=16. It can also be found underground in large veins between layers Y=-8 or Y=-56.
Loot chests are less reliable than mining in acquiring iron. They can have both iron nuggets and ingots. Some loot chests are more likely to drop iron than others. Players should therefore concentrate on chests with higher drop rates. Iron ingots can be dropped from buried treasure chests and sunken shipwreck boxes.
Players should search for iron nuggets by looting chests in shipwrecks and bastion remnants.
Iron golems are a great way to get iron ingots for Minecraft. Although it may seem inhumane, iron golem farming can produce a large amount of iron ingots in a short time.
Golems will drop between 3-5 and 7 iron ingots when they die. This means that creating and killing them can produce more ingots than mining or smelting. An iron golem farm, if done correctly, can supply all the iron a player might need.
